# Customer portal

> Work on a playbook together with your customer. They sign in to their own portal and see only what you share.

The customer portal lets you run a [playbook](/projects/playbooks/) together with the people at your customer: an onboarding, a rollout, a renewal plan. You invite customer contacts to a playbook; they sign in to their own portal and work on it with you.

## What your customer gets

A contact you invite gets a portal account. When they sign in they see:

- **Projects**: the playbooks shared with them (*"Projects your team has shared with you"*), with status, owner, dates, current stage and progress.
- **Settings**: their account and their notification preferences.

Inside a shared playbook they can tick off tasks, post messages, download and upload files, see who is on the team, and send a private message to the owner. They can't change the playbook itself. See [External users](/customer-portal/external-users/) for the full list.

## What stays internal

Nothing in the portal is visible by default. Your customer sees:

- only the playbooks they were invited to,
- in those, only the tasks, messages and files marked **Visible to customer**,
- nothing else in your organization: no other customers, playbooks, notes, health scores or reports.

See [Privacy](/customer-portal/privacy/) for the details.

## Where to start

1. Make sure the contact exists on the customer, with an email address. See [Customers](/customers/customer-list/).
2. Open the playbook and add the contact on its **Team** tab: [Share a playbook](/customer-portal/share-a-playbook/).
3. Decide which tasks, messages and files your customer should see.

:::note
Sharing, inviting and removing access needs the Edit permission. See [Team settings](/settings/team/).
